NAPET Ladies plant 800 seedlings in support of Green Ghana Day

In a show of support for environmental sustainability, the National Petroleum Authority (NAPET) Ladies Association have planted over 800 seedlings as part of the Authority’s commitment to combating deforestation and contributing to climate change mitigation efforts.

The NAPET Ladies joined the national campaign to restore Ghana’s forest cover by participating in this year’s Green Ghana Day at the Chipa Forest Reserve in the Shai Osu Doku District of the Greater Accra Region where they planted the trees.
The event brought together the management and staff of the NPA, officials of the Forestry Commission, and local volunteers.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairperson of NAPET Ladies, Mrs. Victoria Nipah emphasized the NPA’s corporate social responsibility towards environmental protection. “As regulators of a sector that contributes significantly to Ghana’s industrialization, it is important that we also take proactive steps to reduce the environmental impact. Participating in Green Ghana Day is our way of giving back to the environment and promoting a greener, healthier future,” she said.

The Green Ghana initiative, introduced in 2021 under the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, aims to plant at least 10 million trees annually across the country. This year’s theme, “Growing for a Greener Tomorrow”, reflects a renewed national drive to restore degraded lands, protect water bodies, and improve the overall ecosystem.

Also present at the event was the Tema District Manager of the Forestry Commission, Linda Asumah Zury
who applauded the NPA for their continued support and urged other corporate institutions to emulate NPA’s example. “The forest is our shared heritage. Today’s exercise is not just symbolic, it is a step towards reclaiming what we have lost to illegal logging and climate change,” she stated.

Staff members from various departments within the NPA took part in the planting exercise, demonstrating their enthusiasm and solidarity with the environmental cause.

Originally launched in March this year, the initiative aims to highlight and promote various aspects of environmental restoration across the country.

The NPA’s involvement reflects its broader sustainability agenda, which encompasses ongoing efforts in Ghana’s energy transition, public education on the adoption of clean fuels, and strategic partnerships aimed at deepening environmental consciousness. By participating in “Tree for Life,” the Authority reinforces its role not only as a regulator in the petroleum downstream sector but also as a key player in advancing national climate action and environmental stewardship
Over 800 Mahogany seedlings were planted in the Chipa Forest. The young trees stood as living symbols of hope, a reminder that together, through consistent action and shared responsibility, Ghanaians can indeed restore the country’s lost forest cover.
