New NPA Board Inaugurated

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has inaugurated the newly constituted Board of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

The new Board, chaired by a seasoned public servant Alhaji Huudu Yahya Iddrisu, is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing reforms within a sector that remains central to the country’s economic growth.

Other members of the diverse and experienced Board are
Mr. Godwin Tameklo, Chief Executive of NPA, Mr. Elorm L. Lardi Glow, Dr. Clement Osei-Amodo, Sanja Anita Morrison, Esq., Linda N. Ogebdei Quao, Esq., and Madam Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor.
In his remarks, Mr. Jinapor emphasized the urgency of deepening regulatory vigilance amidst global oil market fluctuations and persistent challenges such as fuel smuggling, product adulteration, dumping, and tax evasion.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring a well-regulated, consumer-sensitive, and investor-friendly environment in the petroleum space.

“This is not just another appointment. The reconstitution of this Board comes at a time when Ghana’s downstream sector needs bold leadership and uncompromising transparency,” the Minister noted. “

The Authority must work tirelessly to uphold its regulatory mandate in ways that inspire public trust and attract sustainable investment.”

The Minister commended the NPA’s recent strides in compliance enforcement but challenged the new Board to push further.
He called on the members to be champions of good governance, consumer protection, local content promotion, and policy innovation.

In a major policy development, Mr. Jinapor announced that the Petroleum Downstream Sector Reforms Committee established in March 2025 had submitted its final report.

He said the Ministry is reviewing key recommendations, including those that seek to improve regulatory enforcement and operational efficiency.

He assured that any ensuing reforms will be pursued in collaboration with the NPA and broader industry stakeholders.

In his response, the new Board Chairman, Alhaji Huudu Yahya Iddrisu, expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in the new leadership.

He pledged the Board’s full commitment to delivering on its mandate.

“We do not take this responsibility lightly. The President has entrusted us with a crucial national task, and we will not disappoint,

“The NPA Board will work in unity with management, staff, and all stakeholders to build a sector that is efficient, transparent, and transformative”, Alhaji Iddrisu affirmed.

With this renewed leadership structure, the NPA is poised to scale up its regulatory efforts and consolidate reforms.
