NPA Chief Executive Champions Stronger Safety Culture at GOIL HSSEQ Week 2026

The Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo Esq., has reaffirmed the Authority’s unwavering commitment to strengthening health, safety, security, environment, and quality (HSSEQ) standards across Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.

He was speaking as a Special Guest at the 2026 HSSEQ Week celebration hosted by GOIL PLC at the GOBitumen Terminal in Tema, on 28th April 2026.

The week-long programmed, held under the global theme of the 2026 International Labour Organization World Day for Safety and Health — “Promoting a Positive Psychosocial Working Environment” — brings together industry leaders, regulators, and staff to deepen collaboration and promote best practices.

Mr. Tameklo underscored the critical importance of robust HSSEQ systems in safeguarding lives, protecting the environment, and sustaining operational excellence within the sector.

He noted that a strong safety culture is not only a regulatory requirement but also a strategic imperative that enhances investor confidence and inspires shareholder trust.

The NPA Boss commended GOIL for its leadership in institutionalising HSSEQ across its nationwide operations, describing the initiative as a model for the industry.

He further emphasised that the Authority will continue to provide regulatory guidance and oversight to support companies in achieving the highest standards of compliance and performance.

The event was graced by the Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of GOIL, Edward Abambire Bawa, who delivered the welcome address, and acting Greater Accra Regional Director, Ghana Health Services, Dr. Robert Amesiya, who gave the keynote address.

A key highlight of the ceremony was the official launch of the GOIL HSSEQ Employee Handbook, led by GOIL’s senior leadership alongside special guests, including the NPA CEO. The handbook is expected to serve as a practical guide for employees, reinforcing standards and promoting a proactive approach to safety and wellbeing.

Mr. Tameklo’s participation was widely regarded as a mark of distinction, reflecting the strong partnership between the NPA and GOIL in advancing safety and operational integrity across Ghana’s petroleum downstream sector.

The NPA remains steadfast in its mandate to regulate, monitor, and coordinate activities in the sector, ensuring that industry players operate responsibly, ethically, and in the national interest.
