The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) football team demonstrated determination and tactical discipline in a highly anticipated semi-final encounter against Union Ghana, held on Friday, 4th July 2025 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium as part of the ongoing University of Ghana Corporate League.
Kickoff commenced promptly at 7:45 PM, with both teams entering the pitch to roaring cheers from their supporters. From the onset, it was evident that the match would be fiercely contested, with both sides exhibiting a high level of skill, coordination, and composure.
Throughout the first half, the NPA team executed a well-organized tactical strategy, maintaining possession, closing down spaces, and disrupting Union Ghana’s attacking rhythm. Despite several promising chances, neither side was able to convert, and the first half ended in a goalless draw, a testament to the defensive prowess and calculated gameplay on display.
The intensity continued into the second half. However, just ten minutes in, Union Ghana capitalized on a controversial opportunity, scoring what appeared to be an unqualified goal, which sparked debate among spectators and officials. Despite the setback, the NPA players maintained their composure and pressed forward with urgency and resolve, creating several chances that narrowly missed the target. Their relentless pursuit of an equalizer kept the stadium in suspense until the final whistle was blown at the 90th minute, sealing a 1–0 victory for Union Ghana.
While the result may not have gone in NPA’s favor, the team’s performance was a reflection of commitment, sportsmanship, and tactical maturity. They exit the tournament with heads held high, having left an indelible mark on the competition and earning admiration from both supporters and rivals alike.
The NPA team remains resolute in its pursuit of excellence and looks ahead to future tournaments with renewed purpose and vigor.
