The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has concluded the northern leg of its maiden Regional Downstream Compliance Workshops, part of a new push by Chief Executive Mr Godwin Kudzo Tamaklo (ESQ) to strengthen safety and regulatory compliance in Ghana’s petroleum downstream sector.
The five-day programme, held in Tamale, Buipe and Bolgatanga from 18 to 22 August 2025, brought together tanker drivers, fuel station managers and operators from over 20 oil companies, including GOIL PLC, TotalEnergies, Zen Petroleum, Shell and Star Oil.
Led by the Authority’s Business Development Department, under Mr Osei Yaw Danquah, the workshops focused on licensing, product quality, monitoring, road safety and fire prevention. Senior NPA officials delivered technical presentations, including:

Madam Thelma Kortei, Licensing Manager, on documentation and compliance requirements. Regional managers Mr Theophilus Agyen Manu (North, North East and Savannah) and Mr Bright Agbesi Ahiamadzor (Upper East), who urged participants to apply the lessons in their operations.
The Ghana National Fire Service, represented by Mr Hudu Baba, also warned against passengers remaining in vehicles during refuelling, urging stricter enforcement by the NPA.
The Chairman of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union, Alhaji Abubakari Abdul, welcomed the initiative and called for such training to be held regularly.
Closing the programme, Mr Danquah emphasized that compliance with NPA regulations was critical to public safety and sustainable business growth.
The Authority says the workshops will continue in other regions as part of efforts to build a culture of accountability and safety across the downstream industry.
