The Parliamentary Select Committee on Economy and Development has commended the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) for its impressive work in regulating Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Development, Hon Eric Afful, who gave the commendation said the NPA was crucial to Ghana’s economy in terms of keeping the economy running and contributing significantly to the gross domestic product (GDP).
This commendation came during a working visit to the Authority, where members of the Committee met with the Chief Executive, Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, Esq., and the executive management team of NPA to gain first-hand insight into the NPA’s operations and regulatory mandate.
Hon. Afful said the purpose of the visit was to follow up on previous engagements and to Verify relevant information. He also explained that the Committee was “not here as policemen” but rather to “collaborate” with the Authority and commended the institution for its work and contribution to the country’s development.
In his address, Mr. Tameklo expressed his appreciation to the Committee for the visit, noting that it reflected Parliament’s continued interest in strengthening the downstream petroleum sector.
“Today the authority is honoured to receive the members of this august committee of parliament, I have always maintained the work of MPs is not a joke and so today, we open our doors for verification, so it does not become the CEO’s words only.”
He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to ensuring a safe, efficient and resilient petroleum industry, adding that the engagement provided an opportunity to showcase the NPA’s achievements, ongoing reforms and the critical role it continues to play in safeguarding the sector.
The Committee also toured key operational facilities within the NPA where they were taken through the functions of the Authority’s technical departments and the systems that underpin the NPA’s regulatory oversight.
